Social Media Lessons Through a Looking Glass

By Mark Keeler

I learned a 3 huge lessons this weekend about posting photos and audio in Facebook. I posted an exercise video on Facebook and one of my co workers took the liberty to make a screen capture of myself showing off my flat stomach.  He posted it in several work locations.  I found it funny, but unprofessional.  I kept the video on Facebook.

The 2nd situation I encountered was a picture of myself with my arm around another female who was not my wife.  My wife helped me post the photos.  However, a friend called and said the photo made me and the other female appear to be a married couple.  I pulled the questionable photos.

The 3rd lesson I learned was a big spanking from the staff at Facebook.  They pulled the slide show that my wife and I made because we may have violated audio copyrights.  My penalty could result in my Facebook account being closed!  Whew!  The audio was copied from Youtube.  I figured that if Youtube allowed the audio, I should be safe.  Not!

With social media becoming such a big part of our life, never do anything using social media that you would not want your grandma to see.  If it’s good enough for grandma, it should be good enough for the social media police.

Everything we do using social media will be seen through the looking glass of the public eyes.
