Game Leader
Posted by: | CommentsI am the ex-officio game leader for the Awana Club at a local church. Being the leader is so much fun because I call the shots and sit back and watch all the fun. My goal is not to have fun myself. The fun is a by product of seeing the kids enjoy themselves.
The favorite game for the kids is hunters and rabbits. It reminds me of dodge ball. There are 4 colored teams placed around a circle. I call out a color and that team enters the center of the circle. Each of the other teams proceed to throw balls at the center team. It is massive pandemonium. Everything except head shots go. The winner is the last boy or girl standing.
I similarily enjoy the social networking game. I call the shots and play any game that I want. It sure is fun having an adult play ground!
While I would not officially call social networking a game, it sure is fun. We don’t play to kill. We play for keeps. I like to make connections and contacts and keep them. Social networking is serious business with a fun spin.
Investing in the Important
Posted by: | CommentsIt’s 843 PM and I feel like a real bum. My kids just went to bed after playing video games. They did not feel like reading with me because they were too tired. I let them play their games as I Twittered. In hindsight, I should have been investing in them rather than fooling around on Twitter.
It’s 845 PM and I am heading upstairs to perform an impromptu puppet show for my 2 boys. An investment of a few minutes of time will pay off in ways that I cannot comprehend. How many of us including myself wish that we spent more time with our kids when they were younger?
Invest in your loved now.
Monster Hill Work Out
Posted by: | CommentsI took a run down memory lane this week. It was a wet nasty day. I wanted a good hard work out. My legs were still stiff from running 2 humps over Mission Peak. I was almost home and I had to figure something out quick!
Back in the days of high school, our coach would have us run hills on Sparrow Road in Minnetonka. I have not been back to Sparrow road for years. The memory of running this horrible hill is burned into my brain forever. Coachs Lane, Schmidty, and Hovland would line the team up according to our event. I was a half miler or better known as distance runner. We would have to run this monster 20 times. We had pukers every time we ran this bad boy. Never the distance runners.
Back to reality. It’s 2009, not 1979, and I don’t run 20 hills. I laced up my shoes and ran the 1.5 miles to Morrison Canyon and ran 4 x 1/4 mile up the monster hill. Each repeat took nearly 3 minutes to complete. My total run time was nearly an hour and I was satisfied and tired.
Tomorrow it’s the hang glider launch run which traverses 15 miles through the east bay hills.
